KAYLA & RHYS
Industrial chic at Wild Carrot

We probably say this too often (because we seriously get the best couples), but planning Kayla and Rhys' wedding was an absolute dream. They came to us in the Fall of 2018 with a general idea of what they wanted their day to be but were open to our ideas and trusted us completely to create an experience beyond what they imagined. Letβs just say, thatβs the best kind of wedding to plan.
We started our process by dialing in to the vibe they were after and determined that "industrial chic" best described the overall vision. They had already secured the Shrine of St. Joseph for their nuptials and wanted to find a space that offered a bit more "grit" as the perfect juxtaposition for the wonderfully ornate church. Enter Wild Carrot. Within moments of walking in, they knew it was the winner. They loved the eclectic edge from the exposed rafters, concrete floors, brick walls, and how Laura (the lovely owner) styled with a mix of vintage and modern furniture pieces. It checked every one of their βindustrialβ boxes, which meant the rest of the design would mean bringing in the high-end, chic vibes.
From the start, Kayla and Rhys were clear that they wanted their wedding to be an event. Something that wowed their guests and provided them with multiple experiences throughout the day. So when we started the design process, we were eager to build in some custom pieces that reflected their styles - both individually and as a couple. The stunning church was enhanced with gorgeous floral arrangements at the entry and altar. Cocktail hour was on the venueβs green space beneath a tent adorned with hundreds of hanging vintage bulbs. A round, white bar featuring their signature drinks anchored the space while multiple lounges, created from the eclectic furniture at Wild Carrot they loved so much, allowed guests to mingle, relax and take it all in.
The reception space featured a custom built wallβthe front showcased a namesake neon sign and a decadent floral installation while the back acted as their guestbook. Guests got to leave their mark on the shiplap wall which featured their hand-drawn crest (yes, their own CREST) beautifully created by On Three Designs. Alicia, the designer behind On Three, worked with the pair to make a family crest incorporating details from their own family crests and incorporating details that spoke to the two of them (like the blue jay - the mascot from their alma mater), and we used it throughout the day.
We couldn't wait for the big day to arrive and see the years of planning finally come to fruition. And then Covid came along and tried to ruin our plans. The ever changing mandates meant we needed to continue shifting as well and Kayla, Rhys and their families were willing to do whatever was needed to create a safe event for their family and friends. Originally the day was supposed to consist of 230 guests and was reduced to 130. Each and every guest was temperature checked upon arrival at the reception and donned the custom masks the couple created for them. While the day looked a bit different guest-wise, it was still a magical day full of love. And per usual, we couldn't wait to sneak them into the reception before everyone else to take it all in. Seeing their jaws drop? Pure bliss.
Weβre so thrilled for you, Kayla and Rhys! Congratulations again!
